"THE TRUTH BEHIND THE SOCKZ”

0n August 1995. Antoine Richards Jr. entered fearlessly into this world. From the beginning, both his
mother and father, knew that Antoine Jr. was indeed someone special. At six weeks of age, their son
became very ill with Group B Strep Meningitis, an uncommon but serious disease that is caused by a

bacterial infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. From that point, their lovely angel began a
life long Journey of hospitalizations due to a tremendous insult to his brain which caused severe damage

leading to numerous health conditions such as Panhypopituitarism. Cerebral Palsy, seizure disorder, and a foot amputation to name a few.

Because of the severe damage, Antoine Jr. was unable to maintain his own body temperature and to

prevent more illness, his mom, Katina and father, Antoine Sr. would warm his foot and amputee with

booties and wrap him in electric blankets. Antoine Jr., with his mother and father, right by his side at
in and out of Children’s National Medical Center and The Hospital every moment spent most of his life
i everyone who knew him and for Sick Children in Washington, DC. Antoine Jr. warmed the hearts 0
touched the lives of those who did not know him well.

Unfortunately, in July 2004, Antoine Jr. passed away in his sleep at the tender age of 9 years old.
Although, life shattering for his mom and dad, and difficult to cope still at times, they believe grief is
not a life sentence. instead, Antoine Sr. has turned his grief into a starting place to give his son, Antoine
Richards Jr., long lasting relevance. The memories of his son, has empowered Antoine Sr. to dedicate his
life honoring his son’s legacy through providing fashion for sick children. The amputation of his son's
foot led his father to come up with the concept and idea to create colorful and fashionable socks/footies
called: "POPSOX ", as well as: "Sock: for the Sick”,where for every "POPSOX" sold, one is donated to a

hospitalized child, bringing joy and hope to the countless children in hospitals all over the world.

Currently, Antoine Sr. and his younger son, Tyler continuously create design patents for various items-
socks, tee-shirts, onesies in hope to keep a son’s and brother’s memory alive. it has almost been two
decades since his beautiful and courageous son has left this earth, but this father and son team, is
hoping his memory will continue to live on. With limitless love and support, a father’s dream can one

day become a reality for all sick children everywhere spending most of their time in hospitals.
